The Principles of First Aid are as follows;

  • Preserve life – stop the person from dying.
  • Prevent further injury – stop the person from being injured even more. If possible, an injured person should not be moved. …
  • Promote recovery – try to help the person heal their injuries.

Who’s it for?
Any individuals that are dealing with children including Parents/Guardians, Teachers, Special Needs Assistants, Healthcare workers.

Duration
1 day (6-7 hrs of instruction)
2x 3hr evenings

Course Content
-The Roles and Responsibilities of the Paediatric First Aider
-Assessing the Paediatric Patient (Primary & Secondary Survey)
-Paediatric Basic Life Support (CPR, AED & Choking & Recovery Position)
-Wounds & Bleeding including Shock
-Minor Injuries (cuts & grazes, bumps & bruises, nosebleeds)
-Common Paediatric Conditions (Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Croup, Sickle Cell Anaemia,     Diabetes, Seizures, Poisoning, Extremes of Temperature, Meningitis, Measles, Hand Foot & Mouth, Slap Cheek)
-Trauma Emergencies (Fractures, Sprains, Strains & Dislocations, Head Injuries, Burns & Scalds)

Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a certificate for Paediatric First Aid from Donegal First Aid Services. Certificate valid for 2 years.
