According to the Irish Red Cross, research by the charity shows that only 5% of the Irish population know first aid.

The Principles of First Aid are as follows;

  • Preserve life – stop the person from dying.
  • Prevent further injury – stop the person from being injured even more. If possible, an injured person should not be moved. …
  • Promote recovery – try to help the person heal their injuries.

Who’s it for?
In essence, everybody should know how to perform Basic First Aid in all walks of life.

Duration
1 day (6-7 hrs of instruction)
2x 3hr evenings

Course Content

  • Patient Assessment
  • CPR (Adult/Child/Infant)
  • Choking (Adult/Child/Infant)
  • Recovery Position & monitoring Vital Signs
  • Common Medical Emergencies (Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures, Poisoning)
  • Stroke Recognition (FAST assessment)
  • Bleeding & Shock
  • Fractures, Sprains, Strains & Dislocations
  • Burns Care

Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be issued with a certificate for Basic First Aid from Donegal First Aid Services. Certificate valid for 2 years.
